Online image tool suite

OpusImg vs iLoveIMG

iLoveIMG is the closest structural comparison to OpusImg: a broad suite of image tools behind one free tier and one subscription. The architectures are opposite. Theirs uploads; most of ours does not.

Where iLoveIMG is better

  • ISO 27001 certification and a documented choice of processing region are things a procurement team can act on. "It runs in your browser" is a stronger technical guarantee and a harder one to put in a compliance questionnaire, and for an organisation that needs a certificate rather than an argument, they are the easier purchase.
  • Their mobile apps and desktop integration, shared with iLovePDF, cover workflows that a browser does not.
  • Server-side processing has no client memory ceiling. Very large files and very long batches that would exhaust a browser tab are unremarkable on their infrastructure.
  • A single subscription covers both their image and PDF suites, which is genuinely good value if you need both.

Where OpusImg is better

  • For the local tools there is no upload, no retention window, and no advertising on any tier — you can verify the first of those yourself in the Network tab.
  • No account for anything that runs locally, and no processing cap on the free tier.
  • Every tool states where it runs, per tool, at the point of use rather than in a policy document.

Two suites, opposite architectures

The tool lists overlap heavily — compress, resize, convert, crop, watermark, and AI editing on both. Comparing them feature by feature mostly produces a draw, and the differences that do show up move whenever either side ships.

The structural difference does not move. iLoveIMG is a server-side product: you upload, they process, you download, and they hold the file in between. OpusImg runs compression, conversion, resizing, cropping, redaction, OCR and PDF assembly in the browser, and uploads only for the AI tools, which it labels.

The free tiers are not comparable in the way they look

Both have a free tier. Theirs is a limited subset of tools with limited processing and advertising, designed to convert you to Premium. Ours is the complete local tool set with no cap, because local processing costs us nothing per file — the compute is yours.

This is worth stating plainly rather than as a boast: it is a consequence of architecture, not generosity. The same architecture is why our AI tools are not free, and why a file too large for your machine will fail here and succeed there.

If compliance is the deciding factor

The honest answer depends on what your organisation actually requires. If the requirement is a certification and a data processing agreement covering a named processor, iLoveIMG has ISO 27001 and regional processing and we do not.

If the requirement is that files are not disclosed to a processor at all, local processing removes the question rather than answering it — there is no processor in the path to certify. Which of those satisfies your reviewer is a question about your reviewer.

Which to use

Use iLoveIMG when

You need a certification and a DPA, files too large for a browser, mobile and desktop apps, or one subscription covering both image and PDF work.

Use OpusImg when

You would rather the files did not leave the machine, you want no account and no ads on the free tier, or you want per-tool honesty about where each thing runs.
